Your WHY, your WHO & your HOW. Letting questions do the heavy lifting.

When was the last time that you gave some thinking space to the question: Why do I make my work? What am I saying through what I do? If you are a maker, hobbyist or full time, taking some time out to question leads to revelations

WHY WHO HOW: Digging deep into the foundations of your business or hobby. Bloom Creatively Blog post by Samantha Barnes

Next week I’m going to deliver a group seminar to a group of 15 solo creatives.

I’ve designed our session is to dig right into the fundamentals of our individual businesses, open up the treasure chest of our core values, revisit the original reasons that we make our work, the messages we send out through it and for pudding: a full 360 on the people that we want to and are already reaching.

Its deep and interesting work – in short I can’t wait.

It’s January and as such our minds quite naturally turn to planning.  Goal setting is big business in the solomaker world, there are gazillions of programmes that you can purchase, podcasts to listen to, free downloads to aid you – all of which are valuable, but what about starting off with a good look at the RIGHT NOW.

I’ve been a self-employed artist for over 25 years, that’s a lot of getting it right – AND a whole lot of getting it wrong!

At times I’ve had a take time out to gain a proper aerial view of my entire work life – this normally happened just before I was about to fill out my applications to my local supermarket to work on the tills or stack shelves – desperate for some time out, regular money and to be thinking about something else other than how to make my business work.

Each time I drifted off to complete an application (or sometimes after spending hours filling one out) – I did the exercises I’m going to be sharing in my programme.

The results offered me insights, fresh perspective and new considerations that I couldn’t see before.

The bones of it are in writing, lots of writing – not thinking, just writing.

Your WHY

Easy question to ask, but difficult to answer unless encouraged to think otherly.

Your WHO

Who are you talking to?  Who are your customers?  Where are your future ones?

Your HOW

HOW are you going to reach them?  What to deliver?  Best ways to engage

These three sections cover huge ground for any business or creative practice and set the scene for your next stage entrance.

Once solidified and piloted next week (feedback forms devoured) I’ll be bringing you more about the method of WHY | WHO | HOW and sharing exactly how you can benefit too.

Best wishes and wish me luck too!
