Do you get disheartened that someone else is already making the type of art you’d like to make? Stop you getting on and making it yourself? Let’s Lose the comparisonitus.
Let me tell you a secret, pretty much EVERYTHING has been done before, I mean EVERYTHING. What hasn’t been done before is how YOU would do it.
Have a reread of the above sentence, then read again - in fact I’ve made you a pdf poster of this to print out and stick on your fridge. (Here is your poster - it’s pretty)
If I thought too long about all the drawings, paintings and prints that had been made and sold before, I would never go into my studio.
Thinking this way is not good for us.
So I would like you to flip-it. Let’s have a think only about your little corner of the earth. Let’s think about the fun you will have, the things you will learn if you turn your attention to making that thing you’d like to make. (knitting, drawing, singing, dancing, etc)
When I teach classes, I ask only that the participants enjoy the journey of what we are doing, not think too much about the outcome.
This isn’t easy as we give ourselves such a hard time and expect ourselves to be way better than we are but working this way puts the emphasis on the doing and not the outcome.
So, Come on in, the water is lovely.
Much love, Sam x
