The Benefits of Leaving The Capsule. Downing Tools & Doing It.

This morning I took my dog for a walk over Suffolk Heath, a place close to my heart.  After school holidays and the winter bugs dictated life indoors for a number of weeks, getting outside ALONE is precious.

The Benefits of Leaving The Capsule. Blog Post by Samantha Barnes, Bloom Creatively Blog

This post is all about the importance of leaving the capsule, downing tools for an hour and getting outside, on your own.

When we work for ourselves, there is only us to bang the gong for lunch, to answer the phone, to do the work we sell, to write the actual book we are working on.

The holidays end, the house is a bombsite and our work is sat there glaring at us, as demanding as the dog currently resting it’s nose on my feet with those eyes begging to go outside.

If it’s the same for you, this this bit that I find the hardest – actually leaving the capsule simply for the sake of it.

Shutting the door, getting in the car and going.

Once out I’m free.  Breathing fresh air, happy dog, happy owner.  It’s noted that getting out into nature for 30 mins per day is as powerful as an anti-depressant (I’m no doctor but have heard this on many occasions now).

Recovering from a short illness myself (thankfully not a big one, more of the sickness bug variety – thanks kids) I didn’t go too far and certainly not too fast.   I loved my walk.

Returning, I simply feel better in my mind.  When I look at my dog, who didn’t get to go out yesterday, I see the difference instantly.  Yesterday he was needy, pissed off and a bit fed up.  Today his demons have been exercised, his running  around got out his grrrr out, now he is happily snoring away in his bed whilst I am calmer in my mind and able to work a bit too.

So this post is all about getting outside.  Grab your shopper and head to your local shops to buy some necessaries for the evening instead of driving, go for a walk simply for the sake of it.

Your work will thank you that you did.
