Are You Feeling The January Blues? That's completely ok.
Hello you wonderful human being. Happy New Year. How are you feeling? Happy to be back into routine or experiencing a touch of the January Blues? If so, that’s completely ok.
Hurray for the hype, the karaoke, the feasting, the parties - the excited children, together we had great fun. Given that our joy is our sorrow (according to the prophet Kahlil Gibran) for each high, there must be a low - this is the law of balance.
Queue January blues.
Yesterday I had to tempt my children out of bed with a bacon sandwich, that was at midday. Instead of rousing them vocally, I did it by the power of hot bacon. They rose like zombies. This isn’t boding well for back to school next week and those early starts.
The thing is that we humans are creatures of routine. Work is our solace, routine is good for us. If you normally start the day with a dog walk and Fido has been enjoying his walks at midday or whenever you can get the children up and dressed to do it - you will be able to return to your morning walks - the way you like it.
If you realise that you truly dislike your job having had your Christmas break - use it to recognise that it’s time to find a new one this year.
There is no immediate cure. I find that setting some yearly goals help me get back on track, you can find a post on this here.
For you though, I offer only one piece of advice: Be kind to yourself. Ease yourself in with occasional treats - after your morning walk with Fido, buy yourself a decent coffee. Treat yourself to something in the January sales - repaint your kitchen. Be nice.
Spring will roll around before you know it.
With love, Sam x
