Messing about is how we learn & progress.
I've had a lovely day in the studio today, playing around with adding colour to my drypoint prints. I'm not overly persuaded by colour printmaking, it's just a me thing but sometimes I wonder why use many colours when just one will do? Well, they say that when it comes to the gym, the machine you most hate will do you the most good - so, on with colour printmaking today to see if I can match the two mediums up someway.
Today was all about sketching. I started out merely playing around with drawing foxes, swiftly in order to get in the movement. I then intaglio printed them (drypoint technique where you push the damp paper into the groove you have made on the plexiglass) and then simply tinkered about with watercolours and finally acrylic paints.
Great to mess about with techniques. I'm ordering in some tack solution for my printmaking inks which will make them thicker to use - this means I can lose the sharp pigment colours they currently offer.
I digress. I hope you enjoy them.
Best wishes, Samantha
