- Just DO Something -

It’s been a most interesting week.

I wrote a post recently called  ‘Ten Reasons Why ‘Doing Art’ is Good For Us’.

I sat at my desk for a full day, not leaving until it was done to the best of my ability. I wrote in a way that I would like to digest the information, warm, engaging, and with pictures too!

It was a good exercise for me to sit down a do. Researching and revisiting some of the many reasons that engaging with our own innate creativity delivers to us. A good refresher for me to visit all the updated research that is now available.

Happily my blogpost has been good for others too. The feedback has been wide and positive. My post was the subject of a podcast that I was a guest on this week (out next month, I will post a link up here soon). It’s funny to think that we never know the impact of doing the work that no-one asked us to do - or where it might take us.

Another interesting thing that happened this week was a coaching session I had with a Creative Health Consultant, Jane Willis. (I’ll write more about Jane and her work soon). I booked a session with her to discuss a project I’m working on with The NHS . I needed a space to ask questions and clarify thoughts, a session with Jane did this beautifully.

Further to our time together, Jane gave me some other artists and creatives that might be of interest to me. She told me about ‘The Emergency Poet’ (please see my last blogpost where I declared fan-girl status of this amazing woman and her work) along with other projects which I found of interest.

Reading around the work of the artists that Jane told me about and the work they do in the community, for corporate clients and other large organisations, I was warmly reminded about our ‘Social Drawing Pop-ups’.

Revisiting the work that Carl and I did a few years ago with our quirky vintage caravan (offering out drawing materials at the beach and inviting people to come and join us to draw together) I felt the warm glow of what fun it was, and the people that we met and reached.

It felt great to be honest.

All of the above has reminded me that I have more to offer, organise, and deliver in terms of these ‘Social Drawing Pop-ups’. In what form for now, I don’t know - but I do know that we will be furthering the project in some form.

We no longer have our caravan, I don’t have a lovely vintage ambulance or a converted horsebox to play with and base our workshops around - but do we actually need one to run the events and make a difference? No.

Which leads me back to my title of this blog post - Just Do Something.

So, note to self Sam - Just DO Something. Dust off my pencils, pick a date, spread the word, and meet others to draw.

On it.

Much love

Sam x
