The Unforgiving Beauty Of Working In Monochrome

When we are working and making work, new ideas flourish all on their own.

My last post here on my blog was about making some new paintings that originated from my loathing procrastination about having to do a BIG food shop. In preparation for the shop, I began drawing the items I needed, instead of writing out a list.

This lead to a smorgasbord of visual ideas which I ran with - and not going food shopping at all.

Looking at the works I made, I wanted to spend a little time sharpening up my shapes. The best way to do this is to work with a limited palette of colours - the most extreme being only black and white paint.

I’m happy with these works now - layers upon layers of paint, honing in shapes until they felt right in my tummy and to my eye.

These works of course are sparking all sort of new ideas, because our best ideas come along when we are busy already working.

Ps - these works will be added to my website soon. Those on my mailing list always get first dibs, you might like to join it here.
