Everything I Know About Holding An Open Studio
This weekend my garden studio is o p e n to visitors. It's tidy, prepped and ready for, er, who knows who, because the one thing we can never count on - is if anyone will actually come...🤞.
Roll up, roll up…, ok, so I haven’t quite donned a sandwich board to stroll along my local High St, but all else is now done, and I could now twist myself into knots being a busy fool in preparation for tomorrow.
Instead, I’m sitting here with the dog next to me, writing out thoughts.
I’m guessing this might be my 20th Open Studio or thereabouts over my 30+ years as a self-employed artist. Perhaps my 6th one here in Suffolk over the past 14 years.
The day/nights before these events don’t get easier. All the usual questions are rattling around - will anyone come - will anyone buy anything? Entirely normal, entirely nerve-racking.
If you are considering opening your workspace to share with interested humans, here are my thoughts, considerations, total musts - and a few hard-learned don’ts.
