In my home county of Hampshire (UK) there is a village called Stockbridge - and It’s a large part of my my history.
I remember Sundays particularly, walks with my parents and grandparents. After lunch, all 6 of us (and the dog) would pour into an old car, to arrive in Stockbridge where we would walk up and down this beautiful village, taking in the shop window displays - which were closed of course, it was a Sunday.
We walked as a family up and down, stopping to feed the fish - amazing Trout that were as tame as the ducks.
My grandfather (whom we called Dodd) always found his way into the nearest pub for a pint of ale, I remember the smell of tobacco and the heavy fabrics, musty but familiar and warm.
These are treasured memories.
Today Stockbridge is still as popular, more so with the award-winning eateries. It’s a place that will always have emotional pull for me. Taking my own children to feed the fish and walk on a Sunday as a family brings new memories.
