Agony Arty: Questions asked and answered.

A few months ago, over on Instagram, I asked those following my page if they had any art-related questions or problems that they were struggling with, and if I might help.

It wasn’t something I had thought too much about; I just asked, and people wrote to me via email, direct message to my inbox, or voice notes.

It’s been a humbling experience, and I’m only too happy to offer thoughts and advice to others newer to making and selling than me.

I always begin by explaining that I am not a therapist or counsellor, but I'm happy to share my lived experience, which can really help. As we all know, sometimes just writing out the issue can help identify what’s irking us.

I’m on around my tenth question now. Some of the questions have been around working with small family members in tow, new projects, issues around self-doubt, marketing, and studio spaces. Common problems to all makers of whichever stage.

It’s such an interesting thing to do. When a question comes in, I give it a day or two’s thinking time, then make a dedicated reel with my thoughts and answers - again repeating that my reply is only my thoughts and they are welcome to take or leave it as fits.

All questions and answers are completely anonymous ❤️ everytime.

The truly magical thing that happens is the comments below the reels themselves.

Others wanting to help and offer their own thoughts and solutions.

This is social media at its very best.

There is so much love in the room and the world for you and the work we make.

I hope you feel a little of it over on my Instagram page.

Much love

Sam

(and of course, if you have a question - email me here, or via a direct message over on the gram)
